Teaching

Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul, Yeungnam University

2024–present
PSPS students are civil servants, public agency staff, and NGO practitioners from Asia, Africa, and Central Asia. Courses are taught in English.
Microfinance and Saemaul Development Strategy
The course traces community finance from Raiffeisen cooperatives through the Grameen model to Korean village credit cooperatives, and asks what transfers across contexts and what does not. Students diagnose the microfinance system of their own country against these reference models.
Financial Cooperatives
Governance, capital structure, risk management, and the tension between member service and institutional sustainability in cooperative financial institutions.
Social Research Methods and Statistics
Research design, survey construction, and quantitative analysis for development practitioners.

Chosun University, Department of Economics

2014–2024
Economic Data Analysis · Financial Economics · Asset Pricing Theory · Financial Markets · Introduction to Financial Engineering
Previously taught finance at Yonsei University, Yeungnam University, Keimyung University, and Sungkonghoe University.

Teaching as Research

Two cohorts of Microfinance and Saemaul Development Strategy (2024, 2025) produced roughly 130 student outputs — team presentations, comparative country reports, and final papers. Because the cohorts turned over completely between years while the conclusions shifted systematically, the variation is attributable to assignment design rather than student ability.
The unit of analysis in student work moved across the two years from institutions → institutional design → ecosystems → functions. By the final stage students were treating microfinance not as a single object but as a bundle of functions — information, incentives, enforcement, trust — which is where the international literature currently stands.
The clearest pedagogical finding is that the form of the question determines the form of the conclusion. Descriptive prompts produce prescriptive answers; contested and substitution prompts produce condition-specified answers. A second observation concerns reference-model dependence: where the Grameen Bank operates as a strong normative benchmark, country diagnoses converge on a narrow set of prescriptions regardless of context.
Course design materials and analytical frameworks are available on request. Student submissions are not shared.
